Coming soon: the twelvebit app is in review at the Shopify App Store.
The twelvebit app connects a Shopify store to twelvebit. It shows which channels, pages and campaigns bring your orders. There is no code to paste, no id to copy and no theme file to edit. The app works only with theme app extensions: an app embed and a web pixel.
Set up the app
- Install the app. Find twelvebit in the Shopify App Store and click Install. Shopify opens the app in your admin.
- Link or create the account.
- New to twelvebit: click Create my account. twelvebit makes the account and a site for the store.
- You use twelvebit already: click Link to twelvebit, sign in on the new tab and pick the site.
- Turn on the app embed. In the setup checklist, click Open the theme editor. Under App embeds, turn on twelvebit analytics and click Save.
The setup checklist in the app has four steps: account linked, app embed on, first visit, first order. Each step turns green by itself:
- App embed on turns green when you save the theme with the app embed on.
- First visit turns green a few seconds after a visitor opens a storefront page.
- First order turns green after the first paid order.
Click Open the full dashboard to open twelvebit.app, signed in to the same account.
Turn off or remove the app
- Turn off the tracking: open the theme editor, turn off twelvebit analytics under App embeds and click Save. Your theme code does not change.
- Uninstall the app: the orders stop at once. Shopify removes the app embed and the web pixel from the store. The app adds no code to the theme, so there is nothing to clean up. Shopify asks twelvebit 48 hours later to delete the store's data (
shop/redact): twelvebit then deletes the store's orders and refunds.
What the app adds to the store
- An app embed (theme app extension). It loads the twelvebit script on every storefront page. It reads the site id and the cookieless setting from a setting that twelvebit writes into the store, so a change in twelvebit applies at once.
- A web pixel. On
checkout_startedandcheckout_completedit sends the checkout token to twelvebit, so each order joins the visit that led to it. This also works in cookieless mode. - The webhooks
orders/paidandrefunds/create. Each paid order becomes a payment and apaymentgoal. Refunds subtract.
The app asks for three scopes: read_orders, write_pixels and read_customer_events. It does not ask for access to the theme.
Consent
The script follows the store's consent banner (Shopify's Customer Privacy API). It sets no cookie until the visitor allows analytics, and counts without cookies until then. When the visitor withdraws consent, the script removes its cookies. The web pixel declares the analytics purpose to Shopify. Shopify runs it only where the visitor allows analytics or where no consent is needed.
What the app stores
For each paid order: the order id and order name, the time, the total and its currency, the name of the first product, the checkout token, the Shopify customer id, whether it is a test order, and the visit that it joins. For each refund: the refund id, the amount and the order id. Nothing else from Shopify: no email, name, address or phone number. See Privacy and the DPA.
Plans
An account that you make in the app pays through Shopify, with a 14-day free trial. Click Plan in the app to choose a plan. An account that you made on twelvebit.app keeps its twelvebit plan.
